BREVARD, N.C. – Camden Ferguson emerged with a game-high 33 points and led three players in double figures as William Peace earned an 86-72 victory over Brevard in men's basketball action at Boshamer Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Ferguson finished 11-of-23 from the floor with all 11 conversions coming from beyond the arc, led the way for a Pacers unit that finished 32-of-63 (50.8%) from the field and 18-of-36 (50%) from 3-point range. He was joined in double figures by Tyson Sellers (18) and Trey Bryant as William Peace picked up its fourth win of the season.
Sophomore Levi Lamb led the way for the Brevard offense with 21 points, knocking down 7-of-13 from the field and 6-of-9 from 3-point range. Lamb, who topped the 20-point mark for the first time this season, was also active with four rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the contest.
Cannon Lamb recorded a career-high 17 points after hitting 5-of-9 from the floor and 7-of-8 at the free throw line to go along with three caroms. JaMarquis Johnson and Ke'Vel Kingsberry rounded out double figure scorers for the Tornados (3-10), scoring 11 points each.
Johnson was successful on 3-of-7 field goals, hitting all three shots from long distance, while Kingsberry came off the bench to finish 3-for-4 from the floor and 4-of-6 at the free throw line.
William Peace established a 12-point lead at the intermission after hitting 20-of-34 (58.8%) from the field and 10-of-19 (52.6%) from 3-point range. Three Pacers topped double figures, including Ferguson who led all scorers with 18 points at the break. The hot-shooting guard converted 6-of-13 field goals, all from beyond the arc.
Trailing by 12 points entering the second half, Brevard turned to the combination of Cannon and Levi Lamb, who came through with a layup and 3-pointer as the Tornados trimmed the lead to seven less than two minutes into the frame. William Peace reached with a trey from Smith Gupton, but five points from Johnson over a two minute stretch kept the margin at seven, 56-49.
Brevard continued to chip away at the Pacers' lead with a pair of 3-pointers by Levi Lamb and Jakob Bergen, making for a 60-55 contest with 12:15 remaining. However, Ferguson answered with three 3-pointers over a four-minute span as William Peace put together a 14-0 run to take a 19-point lead.
The tandem of Cannon and Levi Lamb again served as the catalyst for the offense, scoring four points each, as Brevard outscored the Pacers 13-2 and move within eight with 3:38 remaining. Ferguson drove home his fourth trey of the second half to move the margin back to double figures as William Peace scored 10 points down the stretch to complete the win.
William Peace raced out to the early 11-3 advantage, using two 3-pointers by Ferguson and one by Samuel Arnold to grab the lead. The Tornados answered with layups by Williams and Cannon Lamb, pulling to within three, but long range 3-pointers by Gupton and Tyson Sellers provided William Peace with a 21-11 advantage.
Brevard's backcourt of Kingsberry and Qadhafi Turner drained two 3-pointers to pull the Tornados back within eight, but timely shooting by the Pacers stretched the lead to 37-25 with 5:20 remaining in the frame.
A pair of Cannon Lamb free throws coupled with a layup by Levi Lamb trimmed the Pacers' lead to eight, 40-32, but William Peace received a trio of 3-pointers from Ferguson to close out the half by scoring 11 of the final 18 points.
The Tornados return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host N.C. Wesleyan at Boshamer Gym at 3 p.m.
