Tornados Clash with Maryville

BREVARD, N.C. – After a week-long break between games, the Brevard men's basketball team returns to the court on Wednesday when it hosts Maryville at Boshamer Gym at 7:30 p.m.

Brevard (2-9) is looking for its second win in as many games at home, after posting an 87-78 victory over Berea on Jan. 3. The Tornados suffered a pair of setbacks since that point, falling 63-57 at Ferrum and 72-56 at Piedmont.

The Tornados, averaging 72.5 points per contest through their first 11 contests, are led by the trio of JaMarquis Johnson, Stevie Williams and Levi Lamb. Johnson leads all Brevard scorers with 158 points (14.4 ppg), hitting 54-of-119 (45.4%) from the floor and 27-of-62 (43.5%) from 3-point range.

Williams enters the contest with 145 points (13.2 ppg) and is tied with Johnson for most made field goals (54) on the campaign. The senior guard has handed out 35 assists, while making 20 steals and six blocks.

Levi Lamb is tied with Johnson for the most rebounds (47), climbing the glass for 36 defensive boards. He has also made his presence felt with a team-high 12 blocks to go along with 17 steals.

Maryville (11-3) is riding a nine-game winning streak, which began with a 76-63 victory over Randolph College on Dec. 2. In that span the Scots have topped 80 points on seven occasions during that stretch and are 4-2 on the road this season.

Four players are averaging double figure scoring for the Scots this season, including Dane Hoppa (13.4 ppg), Calvin Songster (13.2), Emier Bowman (12.0) and Colt Nokes (11.8). Hoppa and Songster are separated in scoring by two points, 187-185, respectively.

The Maryville defense is limiting its opponents to 71.9 points per game this season due in large part to 113 steals and 54 blocks.
