BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard men's basketball team returns to the court on Wednesday when it welcomes Berea to Boshamer Gym at 7:30 p.m.
The Tornados (1-7), who last took to the court against LaGrange on Dec. 20, are in search of their first home win of the 2017-18 campaign. Brevard is also looking to halt a three-game losing streak that began with an 83-69 setback to Covenant.
In the first meeting between the two programs on Dec. 9, Brevard's defense forced 30 turnovers and Divese Carson led the Tornados with 16 points. Carson, who finished the game 6-of-19 from the field and led the team with two 3-pointers, powered Brevard on offense to help the team secure their first win of the 2017-18 campaign and their first road win since Dec. 2, 2015.
The Tornados were able to score 21 points off of 30 turnovers from Berea, and the team recorded a season-high in rebounds (43) and steals (15) in the victory. Stevie Williams tallied 13 points, including six points in the overtime period. Williams also led all players with five steals. Levi Lamb was the third member of the team to notch double-digit points (10) on the game, including seven rebounds.
Brevard is led offensively by the trio of JaMarquis Johnson (14.5 ppg), Williams (13.3) and Divese Carson (12.9). Johnson, who has two 20-point outings this season, ascended to the top of the team in scoring by reaching double figures in his last three contests versus Covenant (24), Methodist (14) and LaGrange (11).
Sophomore Levi Lamb is also making an impact on the Brevard lineup, forcing a team-high 16 steals, as the Tornados have a 72-64 advantage in steals over their opponents.
Berea (3-6) heads into its second meeting of the season with the Tornados on a six-game losing streak that dates back to Dec. 2, when the Mountaineers fell to Covenant 93-64.
Torell Carter guides the way for the Mountaineer offense with 184 points, hitting 66-of-135 (48.9%) from the floor, while converting 43-of-57 (75.4%) of his attempts at the free throw line. He is joined among the offensive leaders by Dyonta Bizzle Brown (126 points) and Travis Hadyn Roe (118). Berea's offense has managed to hit 43.6 percent from the floor, converting 256-of-587 field goal attempts.
