BREVARD, N.C.- Brevard men's basketball will look to build on their victory at Berea on Dec. 9, as they host Covenant and Methodist on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, respectively.
The two games this weekend will be the first of four consecutive home games for Brevard, as they will play LaGrange on Dec. 20 and will rematch with Berea on Jan. 3, 2018.
The Tornados (1-4) are coming off their first victory of the season, a 68-62 overtime thriller at Berea. While the Scots held the advantage in shooting percentage (35.7%) and rebounding (53-43), Brevard forced 30 turnovers on defense and the scoring was led by Divese Carson with 16 points, followed by Stevie Williams (13) and Levi Lamb (10).
Heading into the games this weekend, Brevard has four players averaging double-digit points on the season with JaMarquis Johnson (13.4) leading the way, followed by Williams (12.6), Carson (11.2) and Shelby Parris (10.6). Williams continues to stay active on the offensive end, as he leads the team with 2.6 assists per game.
Covenant (3-3) heads into the game on a two-game losing skid, as the Scots fell to Sewanee (Dec.5) 92-86 and Emory (Dec. 6) 80-73. In the two losses, Covenant has allowed their opponents to shoot a combined 61-of-118 (51.7) from the floor, while also being outrebounded (80-62).
The Scots have a high scoring offense, averaging 84.2 points per game which ranks third in the USA South Conference. Seniors Patjo Twagirayezu and Berto Dryden lead the team in scoring with 18.3 and 15.2 points per game, respectively.
In the game on Sunday, Methodist (4-2) will also be playing their second game in a back-to-back weekend series as they will take on Piedmont in Demorest, Ga. on Saturday afternoon. In their most recent contest, the Monarchs fell to Guilford 79-62 on Dec. 6.
Methodist is led on offense by senior Davion Ayaberreno, who ranks fifth in the USA South Conference with 19.5 points per game. Not far behind him is senior Bryan Rouse, who is averaging 17.3 points per game this season.
Tip-off for Saturday and Sunday's games is set for 2 p.m.
