The 2019 BC Tornados Football team enters the upcoming campaign with 60-plus newcomers in addition to its 50-plus returners.

Among those returners are 2018 USA South Offensive Rookie of the Year Dalton Cole (QB) alongside two USA South All-Conference performers: Ralph Roman III (WR) and Quentin Jackson (DB).

Cole, a native of Hendersonville, N.C., enjoyed a stellar freshman campaign that saw the left-hander throw for 1,648 passing yards, complete 60.4% of his passes, and throw a conference-best 20 touchdowns.

Roman III, a native of Ahwatukee, Az., served as the team’s punter last season in addition to his receiving duties. He was the team’s second-leading receiver, hauling in 38 receptions for 371 yards and a touchdown. Roman III’s all-conference punting ability showed last year when the senior 38 punts for 1376 yards, an average of 36.2 yards per punt.  He landed 14 punts inside of the 20-yard line, and had a long of 55 yards.

Jackson, a native of Columbia, Md., helped lead a Tornado secondary that ranked first in the USA South in fewest passing yards allowed per game (170.2). The junior defensive back enjoyed a breakout campaign, tallying a team-best four interceptions while breaking up four passes, recording 44 tackles, and recovering a fumble.

The BC Football program made numerous coaching additions in the summer, adding some familiar names to the staff.

Coach Luke Jaicks was promoted to Defensive Coordinator in the Spring, retaining his duties as the Cornerbacks Coach. Jaicks will look to lead a Tornado secondary that impressed throughout the 2018 season.

With Jaicks slotted as the Defensive Coordinator, Coach Jeron Gouveia-Winslow was made the Special Teams Coordinator, in addition to retaining his duties as the Safeties Coach.

James Fitzgerald (Recruiting Coordinator/Outside Linebackers Coach) and Shane Nelson (Inside Linebackers Coach) were added to the Tornado staff before the summer as well.

A total of four former BC Tornado student-athletes, including one current student, were added to the staff. Bubba Craven (Assistant Wide Receivers Coach/Special Projects), Axel Easter (Defensive Line Coach), Caleb Chandler (Student Assistant Offensive Line Coach) and Tyler Gregory (Offensive Analyst & Personnel Director), who were all members of the 2018 team were added to Head Coach Bill Khayat’s staff.

Three more additions - Charlie Parker (Assistant Running Backs Coach), Austin Hires (Director of Team Fitness), and Neil Tesnow (Student Assistant for Quality Control) - were recently announced as well, further bolstering the Tornado coaching staff.

Brevard College Football continues its preseason work with a controlled scrimmage on Saturday, August 31 versus Southern Virginia University at Brevard Memorial Stadium. The event is open and free to the public.

The Tornados will open up their 2019 regular season at home in the confines of Brevard Memorial Stadium when Apprentice School visits on Saturday, September 14 at 1 p.m. The game marks Family Weekend for the Brevard College community, in addition to being the annual Hometown Heroes game, where first responders around Transylvania County will be honored.
