Brevard Football Closes Out 2018 Against Allen University

Joseph Marvin: Assistant Sports Information Director

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Tornados Football team (3-6, 3-4 USAS) competes in its last game of 2018 as Allen University (2-5) visits Brevard Memorial Stadium in non-conference action on Saturday, November 17 at 1 p.m. Gates will open at 11 a.m.

Head Coach Bill Khayat and staff finish up their second season at the helm of Tornados Football with a chance to match their 2017 record of 4-6 with a win on Saturday.

2018 saw Brevard compete for its first USA South Regular Season Championship, as the Tornados finished with a 3-4 slate in their new conference. Brevard stood alone at fifth place in the conference, which was a spot up from their preseason pick of sixth place.

The Tornados have a chance to tie the 2009 Brevard College Football team for the most wins at home in a single season, as the 2009 Tornados finished their school-record 7-4 season with four wins at home (4-2). With a win over Allen on Saturday, the 2018 Tornados would finish with a school NCAA-era record best home winning percentage, supplanting the 2009 team.

Several Tornados also have a chance to etch their names into the BC record books on Saturday. Senior wide-receiver Bubba Craven, who broke the school record for receiving yards and receptions this season, can also tie or even surpass Eric Watts (2009-12) for career touchdown receptions. Watts finished his BC career with 16 touchdown receptions. Craven currently has recorded 15 touchdown receptions, all coming in the last two seasons.

Freshman quarterback Dalton Cole has enjoyed a solid freshman campaign for the Tornados. The Hendersonville, N.C. native has passed for 1631 yards, completing 145-244 passes (59.4%) for 15 touchdowns. He sits second in the BC single-season passing categories of completions, attempts, yards, and touchdowns.

Senior Axel Easter is only three sacks away from tying the career sack record of 13 set by Christian Lumbu (2007,09-11). Easter currently sits third all-time in BC history with 10 career sacks.

Sophomore defensive back Trevon Charles has sustained success in the return game. In 2018, Charles has recorded 18 returns for 461 yards and a USA South Conference-leading 25.6 average. Charles returned a kickoff 84 yards against Methodist on October 6, which set the school record for longest kickoff return.

Saturday will be the first-ever meeting for Brevard and Allen, as the Yellow Jackets are in their first season of a football program restart. Saturday's matchup will mark the first time that Brevard has faced off with an NAIA member institution since 2009, when the Tornados squared off against Edward Waters College, prevailing on the road by a score of 51-6. Brevard earned their best record as an NCAA member institution that year, finishing with a record of 7-4.
