BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Tornados Football team (0-2) will make its inaugural trip to Maryville College (0-2) to clash with the Scots at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29. This meeting marks the first time that the two institutions have met on the gridiron, as Brevard did not have Maryville on its 2017 schedule due to transitioning to the NCAA Division III level.

The Tornados come into this weekend's showdown after falling on the road to Virginia-Lynchburg by a final score of 16-14. This game marked the first action Brevard Football had seen in 21 days, as the Tornados had a scheduled bye week followed by their home-opener against Allen University being postponed due to Hurricane Florence.

Coach Bill Khayat will lead his squad into Maryville, Tenn. after a very solid defensive performance in last week's action. Brevard forced two turnovers against the Dragons, one off of an Isaac Crisp interception and the other being a fumble recovered by Samuel Butikofer. The Tornados' defensive attack was led in the trenches by Senior Axel Easter. Easter had a career day statistically, as he racked up four sacks along with 6.5 TFL's. Easter also forced one fumble in the contest. This defensive showcase earned him USA South Conference Football "Plays of the Week" honors, as well as earning a nomination for USA South Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week.

The Maryville Scots (0-2) open conference play after dropping their first two contests of 2018. The Scots dropped their home opener last week, falling to Centre College 40-6. This defeat came after Maryville fell to Berry College by a 38-3 margin. The Scots are currently in a similar situation that Brevard was, as the Maryville vs Brevard matchup will be the Scots' first action in 21 days. Maryville had a scheduled bye week last week, and its matchup against Washington Lee originally slated for Sept. 15 was canceled.

Maryville comes into USA South play with fairly high expectations. The Scots were voted to finish second in the USA South Preseason Coaches' Poll, tallying 38 points alongside a first-place vote. Brevard received 23 points in this poll to be selected sixth.
