BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard football team puts the finishing touches on the 2017 campaign on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Averett on Senior Day at Brevard Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m.

The Tornados, who enter the game 4-5, are looking to finish the season at .500 for the first time since going 7-4 in the 2009 campaign. Brevard will also recognize the contributions of seniors Tyler Beam, Tyler Gregory, Jarkevius Hopkins, Jinsly Jhon, Jason Nieradka and Eddie Slye.

The Tornados are fresh off a 16-point victory at N.C. Wesleyan (Oct. 28), which resulted in back-to-back road wins for the first time since the 2010 campaign. Junior quarterback O'Shay Carter set Brevard's NCAA record for most passing yards in a game (499) as the Tornados posted a 58-42 win over the Battling Bishops.

Carter, who capped off his career day by going 31-of-43 with five touchdowns, shattered the previous passing record of 297 yards that was set by Kye Hamilton against Chowan on Sept. 13, 2008. Senior wideout Tyler Gregory, recognized as one of the top receivers in the nation by D3football.com for his performance on Tuesday, hauled in 14 catches for the Tornados, totaling a career-best 225 yards in the process. Gregory topped the previous program-record in receiving yards (169), set by Bubba Craven against Greensboro (Sept. 16).

The Tornados eclipsed the 50-point mark for the second time this season in the win, including a 63-point outing against Greensboro. It is only the second time in the program's 11-year NCAA history that Brevard has two 50-plus point outings. The last came in 2010, when Brevard posted 69 points against Southern Virginia (Sept. 25) and 53 against Edward Waters (Aug. 29).

Another individual who was key in the victory at N.C. Wesleyan was kicker Joseph Calhoun. Calhoun has rewritten the special team's section of the program's NCAA record books this season with a record nine field goal conversions in 11 total attempts (81.8 percent). Calhoun set the record by converting three field goals from distances of 40, 35 and 19 against the Bishops last weekend. He topped the previous season-high in field goals (eight), set by Austin Clark in 2011.

Averett (4-4) makes its first appearance against the Tornados after posting a 12-7 win over Maryville last weekend. The Cougars came away with the win due in large part to sophomore kicker Cole Westberry, who went 4-for-4 on his field goal attempts, to account for all of Averett's points. The defense, meanwhile, came away with three turnovers and several big stops to limit Maryville's offense throughout the afternoon.

Individually, the Cougars are led by Sean Bowman (1,114 rushing yards), Christian Miles (546 passing yards, Myles Bennett (300 receiving yards) and Dejon Brooks (90 total tackles / 35 solo tackles). Bowman enters the weekend with the second-most rushing yards in the USA South Conference, trailing only Ferrum's Brian Mann (1,254 yards) among the league leaders.
