BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College football team heads to Greensboro College this weekend in search of its first victory in 2017 in its third game of the season. The game is set to start at 1 p.m. at Jamieson Stadium on the campus of Grimsley High School.

The Tornados (0-2) defensive combination of Jinsly Jhon and Jason Nieradka have highlighted the contests against both Davidson and Emory & Henry. Nieradka set the program's NCAA record (which dates back to 2007) for most total tackles in a game as he tallied 17 total tackles in the season opener against Davidson.

Jhon followed that performance by leading four players in double figure tackles in Brevard's home opener against the Wasps, marking the first time since the move to the NCAA ranks in 2007 that the Tornados have had four players eclipse the double-digit tackle mark.

Quarterback O'Shay Carter is slated to make his second start under center for Brevard, who is playing The Pride for the first time in program history. Carter, who transferred to Brevard from Tennessee State, saw his first action on the gridiron last weekend since the Tigers played Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 17, 2016, when he finished with one touchdown after completing 3-of-7 attempts for 112 yards.

Against Emory & Henry, Carter completed 16-of-35 passes for 172 yards with one touchdown. He hit six different Tornado receivers, including Bubba Craven, who he connected with on six occasions for 71 yards. His lone scoring strike of the game went to Xavier Brown, who tallied 45 yards on four receptions.

Brevard got a huge lift from its special teams last weekend versus the Wasps when freshman kicker Joseph Calhoun booted a pair of field goals in the first half from distances of 41 and 40 yards. Calhoun matched a performance set by Dayton Rogers for most 40-yard field goals in a game (two), since the program moved to the NCAA in 2007.
