Impressive Mountain Biking Performance by Tornados for Second Straight Week

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Brevard College Cycling team produced an impressive performance for the second straight week with multiple podium finishes over the weekend at the High Country Collegiate MTB Challenge hosted by Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina.

The successful mountain biking race weekend was highlighted by two more race wins by Brevard's Carson Beckett to go along with a win in the Team Relay event.  In total, Brevard College produced the three race wins, eight podiums and 23 top-ten finishes at Lees-McRae following a six-win, 11-podium performance at the MTB Rock and Roll Showdown the week prior.

Beckett continued his dominant season with a first place victory on Saturday in Men's A Cross Country.  Beckett's teammates Tyler Clark (2nd Place) and Tyler Orschel (3rd Place) completed the Cross Country podium sweep, marking the third 1-2-3 finish in the last two weekends for the Brevard College trio.

In Men's A Short Track Cross Country on Sunday, Beckett won again this time flanked by a second-place finish from Orschel and a fourth-place result from Clark.  With the result, Beckett improved his 2019 record in collegiate cross country and short track races this season to a perfect six-for-six.

Also on Sunday, the Brevard College quartet of Clark, Beckett, Hannah Arensman and Emma Schwab won the Team Relay event, defeating event host Lees-McRae (2nd Place) and Milligan (3rd Place).

Other podium finishes for the Tornados included a third-place result by Arensman in Women's A Cross Country, a second-place finish for Dalton Collins in Men's B Short Track Cross Country, a second-place finish for Maxwell Buyck in Men's B Downhill, and Jason Marquardt's third-place result in Men's A Cross County.

Additional top-ten results by Brevard racers came from Arensman (7th Place, Women's A Short Track; 8th Place, Women's A Downhill); Beckett (8th Place, Men's A Downhill); Buyck (6th Place, Men's C Dual Slalom) Clark (7th Place, Men's A Downhill); Collins (8th Place, Men's C Downhill); Marquardt (4th Place, Men's C Short Track); Ryan Johnson (7th Place, Men's A Cross Country); Nicole Rusden (7th Place, Women's A Downhill); Bryant Bole (5th Place, Men's C Downhill); and Aliza Tobias (5th Place, Women's B Dual Slalom).
