Arensman, Cole Complete Grueling Road Race

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Brevard tandem of Hannah Arensman and Janelle Cole completed the women's Division I road race at the USA Cycling Collegiate National Championships being held in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Friday afternoon.

Arensman completed the grueling 50-mile course in seventh, while Cole crossed the line in 20th. The pair return to action on Saturday for the individual time trials as well as Sunday's women's criterium race.

"I am excited to race at the Collegiate Road Nationals in Colorado," said Arensman. "What completed the experience was to race with my teammate Janelle, who was an inspiration as she kept coming back to the group after each long, steep climb even though she was not feeling well.

"Going into the final climb I was happy to be in the top group, which was a big improvement from last year, and to remain in the top 10 near the climbers over the top." added Arensman.

As for Cole, who was plagued by being under the weather, she put together a solid performance. "I am so proud and happy for Hannah," said Cole. "She race phenomenally, staying calm and maintaining great position the entire race. A rough one out there for me today, but two more races and opportunities await."
