Tornados Wrap Up Season at Collegiate MTB Nationals

COURSE/EVENT INFORMATION

BREVARD, N.C. –
The Brevard cycling team concludes the 2017 campaign this weekend when it heads to the Collegiate Mountain Biking Nationals in Missoula, Montana. The three-day event begins on Friday and concludes Sunday.

The Tornados head into the event after enjoying success at the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference Championship (SECCC) on Oct. 7-8. In particular, Brevard teammates Carson Beckett and Walker Shaw were recognized for their performances throughout the season as they brought home first and second place, respectively, in the conference individual championships. Beckett and Shaw received the honor based off an accumulation of points from race results through the entire conference schedule.

"We're really excited to take the team out to Montana this year as it's a place we've never been as a team," said head coach Brad Perley. "We're always trying to build on previous year's results and experiences, and this year presents a new set of challenges we are excited to face."

Brevard wrapped up the event, held at King University, with eight top five finishes, including a first place in the Dual Slalom by Shaw. Beckett reached the podium with second place finishes in the cross country and short track events.

Janelle Cole highlighted the women's team, crossing the line in third in the cross country event, while teammate Elijah Hyatt closed out his collegiate career with a third place (dual slalom) and fifth place (short track).
