Brevard Mountain Biking Garners Four First Place Finishes
BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Brevard College mountain biking team enjoyed a successful weekend in a meet with Lees-McRae on Sept. 9-10, earning three first place individual finishes and one first place showing in the team relays.

Carson Beckett led the way for the Tornados individual racers, earning a first place finish in the Cross Country of the Men's A Group. Brevard's Walker Shaw was also among the top finishers in the race, placing sixth in the event.

Beckett added his second first place of the competition in the Short Track event, before leading the way for the Men's Group B Team Relay unit that earned a first place finish over the Bobcats. In the team relay, Beckett was joined by the combination of Walker Shaw, Janelle Cole and Hannah Arensman.

"I'm pumped that the team has found its groove coming into the second weekend already," said Beckett of his performance. "I am excited that the first two race weekends have gone really smoothly for me personally, and that the team hasn't had any issues in the races. It's been a really good transition into collegiate racing."
Brevard's team of Zack Lowden, Elijah Hyatt, Payten Maness, Samantha Miranda placed sixth in the Men's Group B Team Relay.

Shaw made his way to the podium for Brevard with a first place finish in the Dual Slalom event.  He enjoyed a solid performance in the downhill, finishing fourth, while Kyle Grau finished second in the event. Teammate Elijah Hyatt brought home a fifth place finish for the Tornados in the Men's B Group Cross Country event.

The women's team was highlighted by the performances of Hannah Arensman, Janelle Cole and Samantha Miranda. Arensman capped off the weekend with a second place in the Women's Group A Cross Country event and a third place in the Short Track.

Cole was responsible for a fourth place in the Short Track, while Miranda's performance included a fourth place in the Downhill.

"The Lees-McRae race weekend is always a blast," added Miranda. "I couldn't have asked for a better last run at the courses with a personal best placing fourth in downhill and a rad team relay with the B team dream team, it was a solid weekend with the Brevard crew."

The Tornados return to the course on Sept. 23-24 when they face Georgia Tech.
