Scots Hold Tornados at Bay in Series-Finale

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (4-12, 0-8 USAS) fell in the series finale of a USA South Conference road series to the Maryville College Scots (10-6, 3-4 USAS) at Scotland Yard in Maryville, Tennessee. 

The Scots earned the series sweep over the Tornados after a lengthy two-hour rain delay. 

Bryce Foster (1-2, 7.65 ERA) got the starting nod for the Tornados, pitching two innings before giving way to Jacob Bass, Alex Winchester, and Matthew Scavotto. Scavotto allowed no earned runs in two and two-thirds innings pitched.

BC infielder Jason Jucker enjoyed a 2-for-3 night at the plate, scoring on a Brae Wooten RBI. Wooten finished 1-for-4 with a double, while Joseph Zub went 1-for-1 in pinch-hit action. 

Maryville was propelled by a strong offensive output coupled with a masterful outing from Damian Lusby. Lusby pitcher seven innings of five-hit, one-run ball, striking out one Tornado.

Maryville hit for two extra-base hits on the afternoon and stole two bases. 

The Scots jumped out quick, holding a 5-0 lead after two innings played. The Tornados were able to get a run back on Wooten's RBI double, cutting the margin to 5-1 after three frames. 

Maryville utilized a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the fifth to plate three more runs, pushing its lead to 8-1. 

Maryville extended its lead as BC's bats went silent, securing the series sweep at Scotland Yard after cruising to an 11-1 triumph. 

Brevard will regroup before heading to Lexington, S.C. to face Roger Williams University (Rhode Island) in a neutral site game on Wednesday, March 13 at 6 p.m. before a home series against USA South foe and nationally-ranked Huntingdon College from Friday to Sunday at Gil Coan Field. The series opener is currently slated for Friday at 3 p.m.
