OFFICIAL USA SOUTH RELEASE

BREVARD, N.C. – After a stellar outing in his collegiate debut last Saturday, Brevard College freshman Matthew Scavotto has garnered the first USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week selection of 2019. He becomes Brevard's 12th USA South Player of the Week selection in the 2018-19 academic year.

Scavotto, a native of Charlotte, N.C., becomes BC Baseball's first-ever USA South Player of the Week recipient after being ineligible for weekly awards in 2018 due to NCAA Division III reclassification.

Scavotto dazzled in his debut, leading the Tornados to a 5-0 victory in the back end of a Saturday doubleheader against William Peace. The freshman pitched five innings of scoreless ball, allowing only two hits while striking out five Pacer batters.

The left-handed Scavotto played at East Mecklenburg High School, where he was named an All-Conference pitcher.

Scavotto and the rest of the 2019 BC Tornados Baseball team will return to action as they face local mountain school Montreat on Wednesday afternoon for the Tornados' home-opening contest. First pitch from Gil Coan Field is set for 2 p.m.
