Mars Hill Downs Brevard in Doubleheader

MARS HILL, N.C.- Mars Hill scored a combined 26 runs in their two wins over Brevard on Wednesday afternoon, winning 16-6 and 10-3 at Henderson Field.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Mars Hill got off to a hot start, going up 14-0 after the first three innings. Christian Stampler led the way for the Lions with a game-high five RBI on two hits. For Brevard, Jonte Wilkes churned out a season-high four RBI as the freshman picked up two hits on three at-bats. Ryan Williams and Joseph Nelms contributed to the scoring total, as the two players recorded one RBI.

The pitching combination of Drake Black, Jake Christian and Ben Melton combined for eight strikeouts compared to five K's for Mars Hill. Black contributed to two of those strikeouts, as the senior is continuing to add to his impressive strikeout total on the season (81).

Game two of the doubleheader was similar to the first game, as the Lions jumped out to an 8-0 lead after five innings, and the Tornados were only able to tally three hits in that span. Wilkes and Mikey Mejias put in one RBI each in the game, and the third run of the game for Brevard was scored by Donny Carsillo due to a throwing error from the Mars Hill shortstop.

Freshman JD Edwards recorded his first career hit, as he put down a triple when he pinched hit for Black in the seventh inning.

Brevard will return to the diamond this weekend as the team looks for revenge on the road against Pfeiffer, with the first game of the three-game series set to start at 3:00 p.m. on April 14.
