Brevard Completes Sweep of Berea

BEREA, Ky.- Hot bats and strong pitching for helped Brevard earn both wins of the doubleheader on Sunday against Berea, and as a result the Tornados completed the sweep of the Mountaineers over the weekend. Brevard is now 5-15 on the season, and achieved its first sweep since 2016.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first game of the day, Brevard reeled off six unanswered runs over the course of the game to win 6-2. The scoring began in the top of the second, when Joseph Nelms recorded his first of three RBI on the day on a double to score Christian Ezzell

Heading into the third inning tied at two, Nelms doubled again to bring home Ezzell and Jonte Wilkes to take the 4-2 lead. Ryan Williams also added an RBI in the third, while Wilkes notched a double in the seventh inning to record an RBI of his own.

On the mound for Brevard, Tyler Timms threw his second complete game of the season, as the senior recorded nine strikeouts did not allow an earned run or a walk to pick up his second win of the campaign.

In the second game, the Tornados jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings, highlighted by RBI from Wilkes, Ryan Roon and Tyler Petit. The offensive production in the entire game was led by Ezzell with three RBI, followed by Wilkes (two), and Roon, Petit, Jadon Wooten and Dayne Homesly (one each).

The pitching combination of Williams, Huntley Hacker and Hayden Price only allowed two runs in the game, with Hacker leading all pitchers with four K's.

Brevard will return home for a seven-game home stand, beginning with Montreat on March 21st.
