Brevard Falls to Maryville in Extra Innings

BREVARD, N.C.- Christian Ezzell recorded his first collegiate home run while Donny Carsillo led all players with three RBI, but Maryville prevailed over Brevard 7-6 in 10 innings at Gil Coan Field on Saturday afternoon. The pitching combination of Tyler Timms and Drake Black logged seven strikeouts on the afternoon, compared to five K's for Maryville's pitching staff.

Brevard (2-9) held a lead on two different occasions during the game, but a sacrifice fly from Patrick Messinger brought home McKenzie Jackson in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at six. Maryville (11-2) then took the lead in the top of the 10th inning when Andrew Henry reached base on a fielders choice, which scored Logan Hayes to take the 7-6 lead.

The Tornados first lead of the game came in the bottom of the third inning following a sacrifice fly RBI from Carsillo, Ezzell blasted a homer over the left field wall which also brought home Jadon Wooten to make the score 3-1.

Brevard's next lead came in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Carsillo grounded out but was still able to score Dayne Homesly from third to make the score 6-5. Homesly and Beau Shealy each tallied two runs over the course of the game.

The second game of the doubleheader was suspended in the middle of the sixth inning, as the game will resume tomorrow at noon from Gil Coan Field in the bottom of the sixth with Maryville leading 9-2.
