Brevard Drops the First Game of the Series Against Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Joseph Calvert tallied four RBI, including one homer as Huntingdon came away with the 15-2 victory over Brevard on Friday night in Montgomery, Ala.

On offense for Brevard (2-4), sophomore Donny Carsillo went 2-for-4 at the plate and notched one RBI, while freshman Christian Ezzell recorded the other RBI for the Tornados on the night.

Huntingdon (6-3) was also able to use strong pitching to win the game, as Carden Mellown pitched six innings and recorded eight strikeouts while allowing just two earned runs on the night. Ethan Hess came on in relief, pitching one inning and logged three strikeouts while allowing just two hits.

The Hawks took the lead early in the game, when Will Cosby doubled to right field to score Garrett Headley, as Huntingdon lead 1-0 after the first inning. Their lead increased by two runs at the end of the second inning, when Taylor Fought drove in two runs to make the score 3-0.

Brevard answered in the third inning, when Carsillo recorded an RBI single to score Jadon Wooten to make the score 3-1. The Tornados added their second run of the game in the fifth inning, when Ezzell reached first base on a fielders choice, but scored Wooten in the process to make the game 4-2 before the start of the bottom half of the fifth inning.

Huntingdon would go on to score nine unanswered runs to finish the game, highlighted by the Calvert home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The two teams will return to the diamond tomorrow, as the first pitch is set to be thrown at 3 p.m. EST.
