BREVARD, N.C.- Christian Ezzell and Beau Shealy each recorded their first collegiate RBI's in Brevard's 12-5 setback at the hands of Toccoa Falls on Tuesday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.
Sophomore pitcher Kross Robinson put in five innings of work, struck out four batters while not allowing a hit in his second career start. Brevard right hander Drake Black suffered the loss and is 0-1 on the season. Black allowed four earned runs on three hits in three innings played, but also was able to strike out four Eagles.
Brevard (0-1) took the early lead in the second inning, where Ezzell recorded a leadoff triple to begin the inning, and Joseph Nelms brought him home when he grounded out to the first baseman to make the score 1-0.
The Tornados piled on two more runs in the third inning, where Jadon Wooten stole home on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Shealy singled into right field which brought Wooten home to make the score 3-0.
In the fifth inning Wooten doubled into left field, and scored a run after a Shealy reached base on a bunt through the Eagles' defense.
Toccoa Falls (2-1) was able to storm back by scoring seven runs over the next three innings and took the lead on a double from Caleb Banta, who brought home Luke Allen and Jesse Thomas to make the score 7-5 after eight innings.
The Eagles piled on five more runs in the ninth inning, highlighted by a two RBI base hit from Easton Staton. Banta led all players with three RBI's in the game, follwed by Easton, Justin Brooks and Allen who each had two for Toccoa Falls.
Brevard will host a three-game series with William Peace this weekend, with the first game set to start at noon on Feb. 10th.
