Tornados drop series finale 15-2 to Pioneers

GREENVILLE, TENN. - The Brevard College Tornados Baseball team (8-19, 2-7 SAC) dropped their series finale with the Tusculum College Pioneers by a final of 15-2, Sunday afternoon in Greeneville, Tenn. as part of South Atlantic Conference baseball action.

Offensively for the Tornados, senior Schuyler Martire (Pine Bush, N.Y.) led the way as the second baseman continues to find success at the plate, finishing the afternoon 2-4 from the plate, scoring one of Brevard's two runs. In addition to Martire, freshman Ryan Roon (Dallas, Ga.) and Joseph Nelms (Malabar, Fla.) collected the Tornados two remaining hits, while senior Blaine Durham (Westfield, N.C.) collected an RBI.

For the Pioneers, Dante Key, Daulton Martin, Zach Lippincott, Edison Cabrera and Frankie Valle all collected two hits apiece, in route to Tusculum picking up 14 hits on the afternoon.

Tusculum starter Zach Slagle would take the ball in game three, lasting three full innings, while surrendering just one hit and striking out three, being relieved by Christian Raasch who also throw three strong innings, striking out two.

For the Tornados, Drake Black (Williamston, S.C.) got the node, pitching three innings, surrendering eight runs on eight hits, while striking out two and moving to 2-2 on the year. In addition to Black, freshman Kross Robinson (Morganton, N.C.) and Tyler Petit (Brevard, N.C.) each pitched scoreless appearances, while Kristofer Yarbrough (Monroe, N.C.) in just his second relief appearance since being sidelined with an injury, threw well for the Tornados in two innings of work, striking out two while surrendering one run on one hit.

Tusculum would open the afternoon SAC clash scoring one run in the top of the first, and three more runs in the top of the second. The Pioneers would score in six of nine innings, before the Tornados got on the board in the bottom of the ninth inning, adding two runs.

The Tornados are scheduled to return back to the diamond tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Montreat College to battle the Cavaliers with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
