Tornados fall in midweek contest to King

BRISTOL, TENN. - A 10-hit performance for the Brevard College Tornados (6-14, 2-4 SAC) was not enough as they dropped the midweek contest to the King Tornado (9-9) by the final of 11-5.

The Tornados offense was led by freshmen Joseph Nelms (Malabar, Fla.) and Donny Carsillo (Waxhaw, N.C.) as they both added in two hits on the afternoon. Nelms scored a run in the contest while Carsillo drove home a run and drew a walk. Five seniors for the Tornados each recorded a hit while junior Josh Hall (Asheville, N.C.) rounded up the hitting for Brevard. Senior Parker Hubbard (Salisbury, N.C.) led Brevard in the RBI department as he knocked across two runs in the contest.

Brevard used a crooked number on the scoreboard to tie the game in the fourth inning after they were down 3-0 early.

Senior Kyle Morrison (Greensboro, N.C.) continued his hot streak at the plate and drove in the first Brevard run of the day with a single down the right field line that drove in Schuyler Martire (Pine Brush, N.Y.).

Later in the inning, Parker Hubbard drove in Morrison and Brayden Morris (Pulaski, Va.) with one swing of the bat as he knotted the game at three.

King came whirling back in the bottom half of the fourth as Tyler Bailey collected the first of three RBI on the afternoon with a single that brought home Preston Douglas.

King would add a run in the sixth and four in the seventh before Brevard added in a run in the top of the eighth inning.

An error on the Tornado off the bat of Tyler Konzen (Orlando, Fla.) allowed Carsillo to scamper home and close the deficit to 9-4.

King capped off their scoring in the bottom of the eighth as they added in two runs to cushion their lead.

Brevard tacked on a run in the top half of the ninth inning on a Carsillo groundout to bring the game to its final score of 11-4.

Senior Kyle Pittman (Monroe, N.C.) got the start for the Tornados, going three inning while allowing three runs on five hits. Teke Scudder (Cornel, Ill.) relieved Pittman in the fourth and allowed one run in two innings of work while earning the loss.

The Tornados shined when at the plate with two outs in the contest. Three of the five Brevard runs came with two outs in the inning as the Tornados stepped up with their backs against the wall.

The Tornados will return to action tomorrow at Gil Coan Field as they take on St. Andrews University in a nonconference clash with first pitch scheduled for 12:00pm.
