Stan Smith enters his first year as Media Relations Assistant in 2017-18.

Smith graduated from the University of South Carolina in May of 2017 with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. During his time in Columbia, he gained experience in athletics marketing, live production, and sports reporting.

He began his college career by reporting for Capital City Sports from 2013-15. This is a weekly sports show operated by undergraduate students at USC, where Smith filmed, edited highlights, and reported on every athletic program for the Gamecocks. Smith was also able to to travel to Athens, Ga., Auburn, Ala., and Clemson S.C. to report on football games.

Smith also served as a cameraman for Gamecock Live Productions from 2015-16, where he filmed live sporting events to air on the in-house video board, the SEC Network, and ESPN.

In the summer of 2016, Smith served as a cameraman for the Columbia Fireflies, the Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets. In this role, Smith filmed live baseball games to air on the in-house video board and milb.com.

Smith worked as an athletics marketing intern for the University of South Carolina athletic department during the fall of 2016, where he helped develop effective marketing strategies to bring fans to every Gamecock home athletic event. When the outdoor track and field season began, Smith served as the Assistant Marketing Director for USC Track and Field for the 2017 season.

During the spring semester of 2017 Smith was a reporter and producer for Carolina News, a live, daily news show operated by broadcast journalism seniors at the University of South Carolina. Smith filmed, edited videos, reported on local and national stories, and helped produce the news show on days he was not assigned to be a reporter. He also gained experience in news anchoring, sports anchoring, and weather reporting.

A native of Seneca, S.C., he is the son of Mary Stanford and Geoff Smith.
