BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's and women's tennis teams, under the direction of Head Coach Brad Jones and Volunteer Assistant Coach Jimmy Wynn, are primed to begin their 2021 Spring seasons this weekend when the Tornados play host to Berea College at the McCoy Tennis Complex on Saturday, with action beginning at 2 p.m.

Live video stream, alongside live score updates, will be provided free-of-charge on the Brevard College Tornados Athletics YouTube channel.

The Presidents of the USA South Athletic Conference have agreed to adjust the Conference's policy on spectators attending any outdoor sporting event hosted by a USA South institution regardless of opponent.

The amended policy limits spectators to two per participating student-athlete, plus students, faculty and staff of the host institution while abiding with all local and state social distancing and capacity directives. No spectators of visiting teams will be permitted to attend. This adjusted policy went into effect for all events beginning on Friday, February 26th.

"I am really looking forward to getting our teams back out on the courts this Spring," said Coach Jones on the upcoming 2021 schedule. "We have a very young, talented program and I look forward to seeing how everyone transitions going into competitive match play from our Fall 2020 practice season. I would like to thank the Brevard College Department of Athletics and the USA South Athletic Conference for being able to put together a plan to allow the student-athletes from all athletic teams to be able to compete this Spring."

After BC opens both its regular seasons and conference schedules on Saturday against Berea, the Tornados will turn their attention to a trip to Montgomery, Alabama to face Huntingdon College in a two-match weekend doubleheader. The Tornados and Hawks face in conference action at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 13 before a non-conference contest at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, March 14.

Brevard's tennis squads then return to the McCoy Tennis Complex to host Piedmont College, with the Tornados and Lions squaring off on Friday, March 19 at 3 p.m. in a conference match and Saturday, March 20 at 9 a.m. in a non-conference battle.

Conference action continues the following weekend when Brevard travels to LaGrange, Georgia, as the Tornados take on LaGrange College in a USA South match on Saturday, March 27 at 1 p.m. BC and LaGrange will play a non-conference match on Sunday, March 28, with time still to-be-determined.

The month of April begins with a Friday, April 2 home conference match for the Tornado tennis teams, with Covenant College coming to town for a contest beginning at 2 p.m. at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

BC heads to Maryville, Tennessee the following weekend, as the Tornados play Maryville College on Saturday, April 10 at 1 p.m. The Maryville contest concludes the conference schedule for BC men's tennis, while the women's team wraps up its conference schedule at home on Saturday, April 17 when the Tornados host Agnes Scott College, with action beginning at 1 p.m.

A previously-postponed home non-conference match for both BC tennis teams against Pfeiffer University has tentatively been set for Saturday, April 24 at 12 p.m.

The USA South coaches recently released their pre-conference polls, tabbing the Tornado women's tennis team to finish fourth in the West Division, while ranking the BC men's team fifth.

Brevard men's tennis finished the 2019-20 season with a 3-6 mark just prior to its season halting due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a pair of victories coming at a spring break tournament in Orlando, Florida.

BC returns Miles Schafer and JaMarcus Walker to its 2021 squad, as Schafer and Walker each earned a pair of victories for the Tornados in singles action prior to the season cancellation.

BC women's tennis returns a majority of its supporting cast from a year ago, as Brevard fields a total of eight returning student-athletes from the 2019-20 campaign. BC was on pace for a winning season, as its record stood at a 6-4 mark prior to the cancellation of the remainder of competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A trio of seniors are set to take the courts for Brevard in 2021, with Mekenzie BowmanMargaret Correll, and Jen Cox all playing in their senior campaigns. Correll and Cox each ranked third on the team last season in singles wins, accumulating three before the shutdown, while the pair of seniors also accounted for a doubles victory.

Alli Kogoy returns to the Tornados following a 4-4 mark in singles play a season ago – with all four victories coming at the number one and two slots for Brevard. Returning junior Lily Farr was part of BC's season-leading doubles team with alumna Samantha Sepe, as the pairing went 5-1 in top-flight doubles matches.
