BREVARD, N.C. - As a safety measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only Brevard College students, faculty and staff, as well as essential game personnel, will be permitted at outdoor sporting events during the Spring 2021 semester. No outside spectators will be permitted for any athletics event on the Brevard College campus. For those attending the match from the on-campus community, masks and social distancing are required as well as Brevard College identification.
The policy is in accordance with the USA South Conference's policy announced on February 5, 2021. The official USA South Conference policy reads as follows:
The Presidents of the USA South Athletic Conference have agreed to a Conference policy limiting spectators attending any outdoor USA South sporting event to the students, faculty and staffs of the host institution. Institutions may adopt more strict policies, if so desired or required by local mandates, but may not follow standards which are more relaxed than those set by the Conference Presidents. These decisions are in alinement with CDC, state, local and campus protocols, recommendations and guidelines while also in consultation with athletic directors, athletic trainers and staffs.
Limiting spectators to those within the host's campus community will assist in maintaining the health and safety protocols which are required by those campuses. As has been the case throughout the year-long effort to provide athletic opportunities for all USA South student-athletes, institutional staffs remain focused solely on maintaining the health and safety of those participating in the events.
In addition to the outdoor team sports (baseball, football, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis), this policy is also applicable to the USA South Cross Country, Outdoor Track & Field, and Golf Championship events. The sport of volleyball will continue to follow the already established Conference indoor spectator policy which does not allow spectators for any USA South contest.
