Brevard, North Carolina – Brevard College Athletic Director, Myranda Nash, announced today that the Tornados have joined the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year. Brevard becomes the second Division III program from North Carolina to join the ECAC, a move that will allow the Tornados an opportunity to compete in the postseason immediately while continuing to transition to full members of Division III in the USA South Athletic Conference.

"I'm excited to join the ECAC for the upcoming athletic seasons," said Nash. "This will give our student-athletes the ability to compete for a postseason, as well as receiving awards in their respective sports."

Established in 1938, the Eastern College Athletic Conference is the nation's largest athletic conference, ranging in location from Maine to Georgia and westerly to Missouri. The ECAC host numerous championships in men's and women's sports across Divisions I, II, III, creating opportunities for thousands of student-athletes. The ECAC strives to initiate, stimulate, and improve the intercollegiate athletics programs for student-athletes and to promote and develop educational leadership, athletics excellence, and athlete experience.

Starting this fall, all of Brevard College's NCAA sponsored sports will have the opportunity to compete in ECAC championships. This means that every student-athlete can participate in postseason play if they or their team qualifies. All teams will also have the opportunity to earn Player of the Week honors, academic awards, and ECAC All-Star teams.

VP for Strategy and Operations, Juan Mascaro, added, "Joining the ECAC aligns with the College's mission in giving opportunities for our students to succeed. During the transition to DIII, this seems like a seamless fit."

The Tornados will continue to compete in the USA South Athletic Conference in the regular season. However, Brevard College is unable to participate in that conference's post-season tournaments until completing the reclassifying period.
